    Its working title was Land Sharks, dropped when the filmmakers realised Saturday Night Live had got there first; before that it was Beneath Perfection, and briefly Dead Silence. The first cut was rated R for language, so they trimmed to a PG-13 and kept exactly one "fuck". The original opening used real earthquake footage and was cut after test audiences hated it, and the ending was reshot to add a kiss.
