Bradley Cooper was cast in the lead, which was written much younger; he was replaced by a man two decades older, and the film reunited that actor and its director with the producing Scott brothers a year after The A-Team. Roger Ebert gave it three and a half stars and then walked out of the next film he was due to see, saying it wouldn't be fair to it in the state he was in.
