It was shot in story order on a purpose-built, fully working four-storey apartment set in downtown Los Angeles, with the average take running four to six minutes. The Spanish director whose film it copies said it was impossible for him to enjoy — "it's the same, except for the finale" — and complained they had thrown out the religious themes.
