Name reveals in 2 guesses

A bagged snack of puffed corn, each piece a fat, curved crescent with a rough, pitted surface. It comes in several flavours but two dominate: one lightly salted and seasoned with the savoury stock made from dried kelp, the other cheese. Made by one large confectionery company and sold continuously since 1968, it has its own cartoon mascot — a moustachioed countryman in a straw hat — whose name is sometimes used for the snack itself. In 2017 the maker pulled it from the eastern half of the country, so it now survives only in the west, where it has become something of a regional souvenir.
